The Houston Astros make roster changes after a starter goes on the paternity list.

The Houston Astros have made a few roster changes after one of their starting pitchers was placed on the paternity list.

With so much expectation around the Houston Astros’ first series of the season, things couldn’t have started off worse than their four-game whitewash of their rival New York Yankees.

Fortunately, the season is long, and they were able to get things back on track in spectacular fashion on Monday.

Ronel Blanco recorded the 17th no-hitter in Astros history. Given that he was a starter for the first time last year and had never tossed a complete game, this came as a total surprise.

That was especially important for a team coming off a bad start to the season and concerns about their pitching staff due to injuries and poor performances.

According to Chandler Rome of The Athletic, Houston made some roster moves before Tuesday’s game, placing J.P. France on the paternity list and calling up Dylan Coleman from Triple-A.

France pitched effectively in his first start of the season, going 5 2/3 innings and allowing three runs on six hits. He also struck out five batters, indicating that he may have been able to bring some more “put away” stuff into his second season in the majors.

Coleman was an offseason acquisition of the Astros and was someone expected to factor into their bullpen from the start after losing so many pieces from last year’s unit.

However, he began 2024 down in Triple-A after struggling mightily in Spring Training.

How much of an opportunity he gets with Houston will be seen, but based on how their bullpen has performed so far, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him take the field early after his promotion.
