Devin Carter of Providence declares for the 2024 NBA Draft, with a projected first-round pick.
After two seasons of starring for Providence, junior guard Devin Carter is ready to put his skills to the test at the professional level.
Carter declared on social media on Wednesday that he will declare for the 2024 NBA draft.
In his last mock draft, B/R’s Jonathan Wasserman predicted Carter to be a first-round choice, going 16th overall to the Miami Heat.
Carter transferred to Providence after starting his collegiate career at South Carolina in 2021, and he quickly established himself as a top option. He has started every game for the Friars the previous two years, and in 2023-24, he averaged 19.7 points, 8.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.8 steals.
Carter was selected Big East Player of the Year and received All-American honorable mention from AP. Unfortunately, Providence was controversially left out of the NCAA Tournament, denying Carter the opportunity to demonstrate his talent during March Madness.
Carter’s rebounding average is impressive, especially given his height of 6’3″. He also had 32 blocked shots this year, and Wasserman predicted that his “versatility and intangibles” would allow him to play immediately in the NBA.
“Unteachable defensive intensity, toughness and instincts separate Carter and fuel his identity, though he’s entered the lottery conversation by developing into a dangerous shot-maker and crafty pick-and-roll ball-handler,” Wasserman went on to say.

This year’s NBA draft will be held on June 26-27 in New York City with the first round taking place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
