NASCAR has decided to make Kyle Larson wait to hear about his playoff waiver after he missed the Coca-Cola 600 for the Indianapolis 500, and some of the best drivers in the garage are speaking up.
From Kyle Busch to Denny Hamlin, everyone has an opinion on whether Larson should receive a waiver or not. Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports spoke with many of NASCAR’s best about the situation.
Check out the video and comments below, where Busch, Hamlin, Tyler Reddick, Brad Keselowski, and Chris Buescher were challenged on who is arguably the favorite to win the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series title.
Are drivers surprised Kyle Larson didn’t get a decision on his waiver request yet and do they think he should get one? Here’s the thoughts of Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, Tyler Reddick, Brad Keselowski and Chris Buescher.
Kyle Busch: “It’s Kyle Larson. Guy’s doing more for motorsports than anybody else.”
Denny Hamlin: “Yes and no. I mean, I don’t know when they submitted it, and what usually is the timeline of accepting or denying in a certain amount of time. But certainly, I think that they made their best efforts to get there. I understand NASCAR’s part, of wanting to protect themselves, from this happening in the future, but you know, I think that they made good-faith efforts to race.”
Tyler Reddick: “I have thoughts. Yeah, it’s concerning. I guess that’s all I’m going to say right now. It’s very concerning.”
Brad Keselowski: “I’m not surprised that he hasn’t got it yet, but I do think he’ll get it, and that he should get it. There were some rather unique circumstances, and I like the idea of drivers running the double. I think that’s good for our sport, and good for our industry as a whole. Everybody sees the value in that. Probably some industry angst over when things got tough, what got prioritized, but that’s just part of how it goes sometimes. I don’t know if I have an answer to make things any better. Certainly an interesting situation. I feel like he’ll get a waiver. He should get a waiver. We’ll move on from this. But as of now, it seems as if he’s going to have to sweat it a little bit, but I think it’ll work out. … It was a really, really unfortunate circumstance for everyone, and sometimes things like that happen.”
Chris Buescher: “No, I’m not surprised on it. They’ve become pretty openly given out at this point. So doesn’t seem like there’s much use for them at this point. I would say there’s probably not a way that they can’t (give him a waiver).
Alas, it seems as if each driver believes Kyle Larson should and will be granted the waiver for the most part, but until it comes from NASCAR, nothing is set in stone regarding this situation.
