The Dallas Mavericks have advanced to the 2024 NBA Finals, thanks in large part to the outstanding performance of their star player, Luka Doncic. The Slovenian star has dominated teams throughout the postseason, earning a well-deserved trip to the Finals.
While everyone has recognized Doncic to be a star for quite some time, his incredible performances have taken center stage in the playoffs. According to famed hip-hop singer Lil Wayne, Doncic’s mindset is what allows him to dominate the 2024 NBA Playoffs.

Doncic has been playing exceptionally well throughout the playoffs (28.8 PPG, 9.6 RPG, 8.8 APG, 43.8 FG%), which is why the Mavericks are in the Finals. However, he has been playing at this high level for quite some time.
Lil Wayne, a well-known Los Angeles Lakers fan, has witnessed Doncic often face off against his squad. According to the iconic rapper, Doncic’s ambition to win is part of what makes him great, and he enjoys delivering in the most important times when the spotlight shines brightest.
“He’s amazing, and on the road, he thrives,” Lil Wayne said on Undisputed. “He loves it. I’ve seen that man hit a three on my team and come back down and hit another three and look dead at me. And then one time, the ball just magically bounces toward me out of bounds…it was out on us, he runs toward it, didn’t know it was out on us, and smiled at me when he picked the ball up. I was like, ‘I hope I ain’t no internal motivation.’ But that let’s you know he understands the whole moment.”
Doncic has a history of delivering late in games, and a quick look at his highlight reel proves he’s one of the most clutch players in the NBA. This postseason, he has been ruthlessly closing out teams late in games, that is, if the game is still close when the fourth quarter rolls around.
Lil Wayne is right to suggest that Doncic loves these moments because how else would he be able to deliver in them so consistently? Luka is constantly dishing out trash talk, whether it be to his opponents or the opposing teams’ fans, and it motivates him to play his best basketball.
Lil Wayne once disrespected Luka, going so far as to throw major insults his way, saying Doncic flops too much. He later changed his mind after witnessing Luka’s dominance firsthand, saying he is a cold motherf***er.
“No, man. F*** no. Luka cold as a motherf***er. Luka cold as a b****. And with that said, when I tweeted that, I was talking about him with all the crying. He done stopped that and worked on that,” Lil Wayne said on All The Smoke podcast.
