The Montreal Alouettes announced on Wednesday the signing of Macon Clark, an American defensive back. They have released American linebacker C.J. Avery.
DB Macon Clark – Tulane (24 years old, 6’0, 185 pounds).
Macon Clark played for Tulane from 2018 to 2022, appearing in 59 games with 34 starts. He had 154 solo tackles, 50 assisted tackles, 18.5 tackles for loss, 18 passes defended, 9 interceptions, 4 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, and two touchdowns for the program. He was chosen to the Phil Steele All-AAC Third Team in 2021. He was named First Team All-AAC in 2022.
Clark signed with the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent in 2023. He was waived during final roster cuts and re-signed to the practice squad. He was released from the Bears on October 4, 2023.
LB C.J. Avery – Louisville (24 y/o, 5’11, 227lbs)
C.J. Avery was signed by the Montreal Alouettes this past January. He played for Louisville from 2017 to 2021 where he played in 59 games with 42 starts. He made 199 solo tackles, 150 assisted tackles, 8.5 sacks, 19 passes defended, 3 interceptions, and 2 forced fumbles with the program.
Avery signed with the Chicago Bears in 2022 as an undrafted free agent although he was waived from injured reserve on August 12 of 2022. He played for the Vegas Vipers in 2023 where he made 35 solo tackles, 27 assisted tackles, and an interception over 10 games.
