You’d think reigning NASCAR champion Ryan Blaney would be unafraid of anything, but you’d be mistaken.
Blaney has claimed that there are at least two drivers he cannot compete with: Denny Hamlin and Kyle Larson.
“Everyone has their tendencies when you race them,” Blaney explained. “You learn that after running against these people for a while. Do they prefer to put you in unpleasant positions to get you to lift? They like trying to get you to lift, just like Denny and Larson. It isn’t a terrible thing, but they like taking up a lot of room. … For example, if they’re on the inside, they’ll throw it in there, push you up the racecourse and attempt to put you in a tight situation.
Blaney also stated that he dislikes having to restart with any driver around.
“I wouldn’t say I don’t like it; I enjoy competing with those guys because they’re terrific racers. But if I have to resume next to those people, I’m thinking, ‘Oh, they could occupy a lot of space, and I just have to be ready for it,'” he added.
It’s worth noting that both Hamlin and Larson have a history of abrasive driving, which hasn’t made them popular among fans or drivers.
