After losing in straight sets against Carlos Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final, Novak Djokovic is looking ahead rather than back.
Following his admission that Carlos Alcaraz was the “deserved” Wimbledon champion, he aimed for Olympic and US Open triumph.
“I was inadequate on the court,” said the Serbian great. “He was the superior player from beginning to end.”Djokovic had been bidding to equal Roger Federer’s male record of eight Wimbledon singles titles – and become the oldest champion aged 37. It was also his latest attempt to set a new record of 25 Grand Slam singles titles.
However, after only having knee surgery on June 5, the Serbian superstar was simply unprepared for the torrent of huge serves and forehands unleashed by the 21-year-old Alcaraz.
It was a miracle he made his 37th Grand Slam final, but he has yet to win a trophy this year. “He was a superior player,” remarked the renowned Djokovic. “He played every stroke better than I did.”I suppose it was unavoidable for him to win tonight because he was simply playing better tennis; he completely outplayed me.”
“Of course, my preparation for Wimbledon was not what I would have expected. Today, I was only half a step behind him in every way. That is the truth I must accept at the moment. “Hopefully, things will be different the next time I play him.”
Djokovic hinted at a possible teaching job for his son Stefan in a courtside interview, but added: “The Olympic Games and the US Open are the two key ambitions for the rest of the year for me.
“Hopefully, I’ll be able to contend for a medal for my nation. I would love to come back here. I have nothing else on my mind right now because this is my last Wimbledon.
