An NFL insider confirms the Pittsburgh Steelers’ genuine interest in Russell

Wilson. The Russell Wilson trade to Denver will be remembered as the worst in NFL history.

On Saturday, NFL and ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler provided an update on the meeting and the current state of negotiations between the two parties. Fowler revealed that the Steelers are really interested in signing the quarterback.

“I’m hearing the Steelers’ interest in Wilson is legitimate. I was told, ‘We don’t bring in a veteran unless we’re serious about signing him. The impression from the [NFL] Combine is that they are serious about Kenny Pickett becoming the starter, but they want to bring in competition,” Fowler stated.

This team would not just take the meeting to begin with if they did not have interest, and now with the meeting having gone as well as it did, there should be serious talks to pick up in the coming week.

Is Russell Wilson a starter for the Pittsburgh Steelers?

According to reports, the Steelers want to bring in a quarterback to compete for the starting job after another season with Kenny Pickett and Mason Rudolph being in and out of the lineup. If Wilson signs with the team, he will be given the starting spot before training camp even begins, as he is an obvious upgrade over everyone else on the roster.

The Steelers would most certainly pay Wilson up to $7 million, considering he is also poised to make $40 million with the Denver Broncos. With such a low quarterback salary, the organization can continue to develop around him in free agency and the draft. With free agency less than a week away, we will see how long this decision takes.
