Pittsburgh Steelers almost made a draft-day trade for star 49ers wide out.
Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk were reportedly on the trading block.
We’ve heard reports this offseason that the San Francisco 49ers are willing to moving away two of their finest offensive players, Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk.
Samuel is a trade candidate due to his high contract and durability difficulties, whilst Aiyuk is ready to be compensated with a large contract that San Francisco has yet to decide on.
The Steelers expressed interest in trading for Deebo Samuel.
During the first round of the NFL Draft, it was reported that the Niners would be willing to deal either receiver in order to move up. That did not work out, but it appears the Pittsburgh Steelers were close to acquiring Samuel.
The Steelers were ranked 20th overall and eventually selected offensive tackle Troy Fautanu. If the 49ers had moved up to that place by giving up Samuel, they might have signed receivers Brian Thomas Jr. or Xavier Worthy.
Instead, San Francisco stuck with Samuel at 31st overall and selected wide receiver Ricky Pearsall. Pearsall should be a solid No. 3 option behind Samuel and Aiyuk. That is, if those two are still on the team by the time the season begins.
