The Pittsburgh Steelers cut costs by allowing two of their top players to leave.

The Pittsburgh Steelers made big roster moves ahead of the approaching free agency season on Friday, parting ways with cornerback Patrick Peterson and wide receiver Allen Robinson II.

Last March, the Steelers signed Peterson, a veteran with eight Pro Bowl selections, to a two-year deal. However, the organization chose to dismiss him since he was due a roster bonus of roughly $3 million the next week.

Despite being 33 years old, Peterson contributed to the Steelers’ defense last season with two interceptions and 42 tackles. He also played a mentoring role for rookie Joey Porter Jr. Peterson demonstrated versatility by transitioning from cornerback to safety towards the end of the season, providing depth amid injuries in the secondary.

Robinson, who was traded from the Los Angeles Rams in April, had a lackluster season with the Steelers. He had 34 receptions for 280 yards, a career low, and did not score a touchdown. The decision to release him saves the Steelers $10 million on their salary cap.

In addition to roster cuts, the Steelers re-signed backup defensive tackle Breiden Fehoko, who spent much of last season on the practice squad.
