Pittsburgh Steelers: Justin Fields and Russell Wilson’s jersey numbers have been revealed.

Fans who have been eagerly awaiting the unveiling of Justin Fields and Russell Wilson’s Pittsburgh Steelers jerseys may not have to wait long.

According to David Kaplan of ESPN 1000 in Chicago (starting at 2:35), Wilson will wear his regular No. 3 with the Steelers, while Fields will wear No. 5 in black and yellow.

Wilson’s number was not surprising given that he earlier released a video unwrapping a pile of Steelers No. 3 shirts with his surname after signing with the organization.

Wilson has worn the No. 3 for his entire professional career. He used the No. 16 in college at both North Carolina State and Wisconsin, but he switched things up when he got to the NFL as a third-round draft pick by the Seattle Seahawks in 2012.

Since his high school football days in Kennesaw, Georgia, Fields has worn the number one jersey. He kept it during his one season at the University of Georgia in 2018 and then transferred to Ohio State in 2019.

The Steelers appear to be fussy about the numbers they hand out. In December 2022, wide receiver George Pickens told the Arthur Moats Experience with Deke podcast (h/t Alex Kozora of Steelers Depot) that he wanted to acquire the first pick, but the club declined because “I think it’s sacred or something like that.”

Only four Steelers players have ever worn the No. 1 jersey during a game. Gary Anderson, a kicker, was the last to utilize it from 1982 and 1994.

Anthony Wright, who was the fourth-string quarterback as an undrafted rookie in 1999, is the last player on the roster who got the number. He never appeared in a game in his lone season with the club.
