The Pittsburgh Steelers have reached an agreement to sign Diontae Johnson’s replacement in the 2024 draft.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are apparently looking into replacing Diontae Johnson for the 2024 season. Over the weekend, reports surfaced that the Steelers were looking to sell Johnson before the start of the new league year.

The Pittsburgh Steelers made a deal with the Carolina Panthers

The Steelers made a trade with the Carolina Panthers, sending Johnson to pair up with Bryce Young. The Steelers gained cornerback Donta Jackson in the deal, which will assist with the secondary that general manager Omar Khan had to reduce last week for cap purposes.

Johnson was the Steelers’ second-leading receiver last season behind George Pickens. The team’s choice to trade Johnson was curious after it signed veteran quarterback Russell Wilson for the 2024 season. The Steelers need playmakers on an offense that failed to stay consistent for most of the 2023 campaign.

The Steelers are expected to replace Diontae Johnson in the draft

According to Field Yates with ESPN, the Steelers are expected to take a wide receiver with the No. 20 pick in this year’s loaded pass-catching class. Yates named Brian Thomas Jr., AD Mitchell, and Xaiver Worthy the three targets the Steelers should be eyeing in the first round.o

Russell Wilson needs blockers up front too.

While the Steelers now need a wide receiver after losing Johnson, one has to ask if Pittsburgh should select the No. 20 choice instead. The Steelers’ offensive line was the primary cause of their offensive woes last season.

They could hope for help in the trenches early in the draft. After all, good wide receivers will be found on both Day 1 and Day 2 this year.

Adding a great wide receiver will not matter if the Steelers are unable to protect Wilson.
