The Pittsburgh Steelers’ shocking request to Mitch Trubisky after drafting Kenny Pickett is simply embarrassing.

Mitch Trubisky has been around the league long enough to understand how it works. What he didn’t expect was when the Pittsburgh Steelers asked him to do something unusual after selecting Kenny Pickett in 2022.

Trubisky was picked second overall by the Chicago Bears in 2017, and he spent one season as Josh Allen’s backup in 2021. The following year, the quarterback agreed to a two-year contract with the Steelers, the same season Pickett was drafted by the team.

The Pittsburgh Steelers made an awkward request to Mitch Trubisky after selecting Kenny Pickett in the 2022 draft.

After the Steelers selected Pickett, Trubusky received a text message asking him to do something he never imagined. Gerry Dulac explains further in his essay for the Pittsburgh Post Gazette:

Questions mount over whether Kenny Pickett's 'the guy' for Steelers - pennlive.com

“Trubisky never had a chance with the Steelers.” Six weeks after signing a two-year, $14.3 million contract in free agency in March 2022, the Steelers selected Pickett with the first choice in the draft. That night, Trubisky was taken aback by a text message that, among other things, requested him to text and congratulate the Steelers’ new quarterback. Gerry Dulac stated, “No wonder he played like he was always looking over his shoulder after that.”

Trubisky found the Steelers’ proposal to be disrespectful. That will no longer be an issue, as Pittsburgh has released him, and the quarterback is looking for a new team to play for.
