The Red Sox and the Red-Hot Rays have reached a new agreement to trade an infielder this summer.

This season, the Boston Red Sox’s fate is uncertain. Boston has shown flashes of potential and has enough skill on its roster to make the playoffs.

The Red Sox have also suffered with a number of injuries, and their offense has not been up to par, so it would not be surprising if the team falls out of contention.

The Red Sox have played 44 games this season, going 22-22. Boston should be able to improve as it becomes healthy, and the club has already been referenced in trade speculations to enhance its roster.

Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Amed has been mentioned as a potential trade candidate for the Red Sox is Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Amed Rosario by Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter.

“Amed Rosario signed a one-year, $1.5 million deal during the offseason following a disappointing 2023 season, but he was not far removed from being a 4.2-WAR player in 2022 with the Cleveland Guardians,” Reuter said. “The 28-year-old is hitting .300/.315/.429 with 11 extra-base hits and five steals in 37 games, and he has started multiple games at second base, shortstop, third base, and in right field.”

Rosario has been excellent for the Rays this season, but it would not be shocking if the Rays trade him considering he will be a free agency at the end of the year. This is one of the reasons he could be a good fit with the Red Sox.

Boston does not have long-term problems at shortstop, but rather a short-term need. The Red Sox lost shortstop Trevor Story for the season, but he should return next year. Marcelo Mayer, a high prospect, might make his debut this season or next.

Landing someone like Rosario could allow the Red Sox to move Ceddanne Rafaela back to the outfield while bringing in a proven veteran.
