REPORT: The Detroit Lions Announce Devastating News About Their 26-Year-Old.

The Detroit Lions will address the defensive back position this offseason, as their pass defense surrendered the sixth-most passing yards in the league in 2023.

The 26-year-old cornerback does not look to be in their plans for next season.

The Detroit Lions will not tender the free agent cornerback.

Detroit does not intend to tender restricted free agent Jerry Jacobs.

Detroit could have offered Jacobs a “right of first refusal” tender for a one-year, $2.985 million contract.

Detroit signed Jerry Jacobs as an UDFA in 2021.

Jacobs went undrafted in 2021, therefore Detroit signed him as an undrafted free agent.

In 2021, Jacobs appeared in 13 games and started nine, totaling 34 tackles, three for a loss, seven pass deflections, and one forced fumble. He also allowed 23 receptions on 39 targets for 288 yards, one touchdown, and a 90.5 passer rating. Jacobs sustained a season-ending ACL tear in Week 14.

Jacobs missed the first five games of 2022 to recover from an ACL rupture suffered the previous season. He started eight of their last 12 games and had 42 tackles, four for a loss, one sack, one interception, and eight pass deflections. He also allowed 32 receptions on 60 targets for 358 yards, one touchdown, and a 70.0 passer rating.

Jacobs appeared in 15 games and started 12 in 2022, recording 55 tackles, two for a loss, three interceptions, and eight pass deflections, and allowed 52 receptions on 82 targets for 638 yards, six touchdowns, and a 96.5 passer rating. He suffered a lower-body injury in Week 18 and missed the rest of the season.
