Russell Wilson reacts positively and welcomes Justin Fields to the Steelers.

Pittsburgh — The Pittsburgh Steelers now have a new quarterback room after signing Russell Wilson and acquiring Justin Fields from the Chicago Bears. And, as the group’s veteran and officially the longest-tenured quarterback on the team, Wilson made a point of welcoming his new running companion.

The Steelers acquired Fields for a conditional sixth-round pick, which could be converted into a fourth-round pick depending on playing time. The move comes one day after the organisation traded former first-round pick Kenny Pickett to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Wilson is projected to be the starter this season, but he’ll also be viewed as a mentor to Fields, who has started 38 NFL games. With a pleasant greeting in mind, he tweeted to Fields and expressed his excitement.

Russell Wilson has already embraced Justin Fields as his new Steelers teammate with thoughtful welcome

Wilson was slated to battle with Pickett during training camp, but with the trade, he is considered the starter ahead of Fields.

Pittsburgh usually brings three quarterbacks into the season, and it is likely to do so again this year. While they wait for a third member to join the roster, Fields and Wilson will get to know each other, and if everything goes as planned, the Steelers might have two starting quarterbacks heading into the season.

Pickett’s trade came after he didn’t handle the news of Wilson’s signing well. As of now, the team appears to have a friendly tandem with their new room of Wilson and Fields.
