Steelers’ top players react to Russell Wilson signing a one-year contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Steelers Country, it’s your turn to ride. Russell Wilson will sign a one-year contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers soon.

According to league sources, the Super Bowl champion will earn the veteran’s minimum wage of $1.2 million, with the Denver Broncos paying the remaining $37.8 million. Wilson posted a video on X, now known as Twitter, showcasing the Steelers and their devoted supporters. “Year 13. “Grateful, @Steelers,” he said in the caption. He has already updated his X profile image to a shot of himself modified into a Steelers jersey and helmet.

The nine-time Pro Bowler will be a valuable boost to a squad that made the playoffs with a 10-7 record despite battling at quarterback all season. Kenny Pickett was less than stellar before being injured late in the season; backup quarterback Mason Rudolph was able to lead them to three straight wins to close the regular season and the final seed in the playoffs, but they did not have enough to defeat the No. 2 seed Buffalo Bills in the Wild Card round.

Russell Wilson’s future in the NFL became uncertain last Monday (March 4) when the Denver Broncos announced they were releasing him. Wilson spent two seasons in the Mile High City and was unable to lead the team to the playoffs. Beyond their struggles on the field, there was internal drama between the 35-year-old quarterback and Broncos head coach Sean Payton

In September 2023, ESPN+ published a profile on Payton where he was open about his feelings toward Wilson. Specifically, he felt that the veteran quarterback wasn’t fully focused on football. “He told Wilson that to salvage his career, he needed to focus less on Russell Inc,” ESPN’s Seth Wickersham wrote. “‘Will you f**king stop kissing all the babies? You’re not running for public office.’”

Given the situational nature of the NFL and life at large, a change of scenery could yield great results for Wilson. He is proven on the football field already and with the Steelers possessing offensive weapons such as Najee Harris, Jaylen Warren, George Pickens, Diontae Johnson, and Pat Freiermuth, this forthcoming NFL season could remind people how successful No. 3 can be and make the Steelers a serious threat in the AFC.
