The 2022 NBA Finals were one to remember. The series featured the Boston Celtics’ young core competing for a championship for the first time. However, it also featured the dynasty Golden State Warriors and its superstar Stephen Curry at his peak. But Curry and the Warriors were already down after game three. Curry was fired up by the harsh reality.
Juwan Morgan was a member of the Boston Celtics team during the series. He was overjoyed when they won Game 3 and took the series 2-1. He hoped to acquire a championship ring shortly. Morgan discussed on the podcast Tidal League something that shattered his ambition, and it came from Curry. Morgan said:
Morgan hinted that despite the fact that they were winning the series, Curry’s determination prompted him to deliver that jaw-dropping comment. Curry scorched the Celtics in game four.
Morgan claimed that when Curry said those comments, he and his Celtics colleagues were perplexed. They thought they were in control and had one hand on the Larry O’Brien Trophy. Morgan quipped that he even considered which finger he would prefer to wear his title ring.
Morgan has alternated between the NBA and the G League during his career. So he came pretty near to realizing his dream of winning a championship. Only to be broken by Curry’s drive. The Golden State Warriors won the Finals 4-2, with Stephen Curry named MVP.
Did Stephen Curry stand by his words?
Stephen Curry remained true to his words, which he delivered to Juwan Morgan and his Celtics teammates. In Game 4, he scored 43 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, and assisted four times, bringing the Warriors even with the Celtics. His performance inspired his comrades to do better. They did when Curry had a poor shooting night in Game 5. Then, with the Warriors up 3-2 in Game 6, Curry led the scoring, leading the team to its fourth championship in eight years.
Despite winning four championships, Curry won his first Finals MVP trophy. As with this series, he grabbed command when it appeared the Boston Celtics were about to run away with it. Curry continued to play MVP-caliber basketball in the final three games, preventing a Game 7 situation.
Stephen Curry was already considered one of the top scorers in league history at the time. Curry’s performances in the 2022 Finals, however, cemented his status as one of the greatest.
