“It’s been a stressful few weeks”: Joey Logano discusses his recent run after eventually securing a playoff berth following the Nashville win.
Joey Logano expressed his sentiments after winning the five-overtime Ally 400 race in Nashville on Sunday. He ended his 50-race winless skid [excluding the All-Star race at North Wilkesboro, which was not a point event].
Logano led nine of 331 laps, which was 31 laps longer than expected, driving his Ford into Victory Lane and sealing a playoff position. The victory was his first at the 1.33-mile Tennessee circuit, as well as his 33rd in the Cup Series.
Running on fumes, Joey Logano just managed to cross the finish line during the first overtime. But after taking the lead following the third overtime restart, the 34-year-old dug deep, steering through two more restarts under high pressure and low fuel, to finally win the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series Ally 400 at Nashville Superspeedway.
Discussing the significance of the win for him and the #22 team, Joey Logano expressed pride and relief. He said [via NASCAR on TSN X/Twitter]:
“So proud of the Shell Penzo Mustang team. It’s been a stressful few weeks trying to get into the playoffs and being able to win here is this huge for our season. So felt great to get that.”
He also opened up about how the victory eased the team’s tension, explaining:
“So much pressure. To try to make the playoffs is not easy these days of these Next Gen cars and it was so equally matched. I’ve made a lot of mistakes even some today and it’s nice to be able to overcome them. So I think Shell and Pennzoil, Ford. Everyone to help support us all the way through Coca-Cola. This is just a much-needed win, for sure.”
