This summer, three New York Giants were listed as major “trade candidates.”

Even more roster shuffles than those that have already occurred this offseason may occur before the NY Giants’ first regular season game takes place. Joe Schoen, general manager, has been putting in extra hours, but further changes might be on the horizon. Consider offloading an experienced playmaker.

Kristopher Knox released a list of the Giants’ best contenders to be dealt before training camp opens in East Rutherford in a recent article for Bleacher Report. His guys were mentioned? Cornerback Aaron Robinson, pass-rusher Azeez Ojulari, and wideout Darius Slayton.

The Slayton trade buzz has been around throughout the offseason. During the early portion of OTAs, Slayton was a no-show because he wasn’t happy with his contract situation. He’s currently in the final campaign of his two-year, $12.2 million contract.

After leading the Giants in receiving once again in 2023, Slayton was hoping for some financial security from Schoen, but an extension never arrived. Instead, Slayton returned to the team thanks to some added incentives for his contract. There was some worry he’d be a camp holdout, but that’s not going to happen.

However, with Malik Nabers now ready to be the WR1 for this team and plenty of depth for the WRs room as a whole, could this lead to Slayton indeed getting traded? The Giants, as Knox noted, would save more than $3 million in cap space if this goes down.

Slayton has led the team in receiving yards in four of the last five seasons – he has become a reliable option for the aerial attack. With that said, it could make sense for Schoen to send him to a new team if the right offer comes in. Perhaps an early Day 3 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft?

As for Ojulari, he showed tremendous promise during his rookie season, finishing with eight sacks. Unfortunately for him, he’s battled injuries the past two years. He just can’t stay healthy. With Brian Burns being brought in via the blockbuster trade and new contract, Ojulari’s days starting are over. He will provide fantastic depth, but similar to Slayton, if the right offer is put on the table for him, Schoen may decide to go ahead and move on.
