Utah State’s star forward, MW Player of the Year, commits to Providence Friars.

Great Osobor, Utah State’s star forward last season, is now officially a former Aggie. The Mountain West Newcomer and Player of the Year has formally committed to play for the University of Washington, joining former USU head coach Danny Sprinkle in Seattle.

On April 3, Osobor entered the transfer portal, beginning a more than month-long journey across the country to see multiple colleges interested in securing his services for his final season of eligibility. He was routinely listed among the most valuable transfer targets in the country. The England-born forward made formal visits to Kentucky, Texas Tech, and Louisville before heading to Washington around May 9. According to reports, Osobor was receiving NIL offers totaling seven figures from each of these schools.

In the end, Osobor chose to stay with Sprinkle, beginning a remarkable adventure in which the two will have spent time together at three separate institutions, involving three different teams, over three seasons.

Another wrinkle in Osobor’s choice is that his NIL earnings for the upcoming season are expected to be at least $2 million, with a potential of $2.2 million. It is the largest known NIL pay in college basketball, according to On3 and ESPN.

In his lone season with Utah State, Osobor averaged 17.7 points, 9.0 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game, all of which led the Aggies. He helped lead USU to its first-ever outright regular season Mountain West title and the first win in the NCAA Tournament since 2001. He also became the second Aggie to win Mountain West Player of the Year.
